What is Branding & Brand Identity?

Brand identity is the complete system of name, logo, colour, typography, imagery, tone of voice and usage rules that lets people recognise a business before they read a word. It is the difference between a logo file and a brand: the logo is one asset, the identity is the set of decisions that keeps every asset looking and sounding like the same company.

At gaa-tha branding starts with the story, not the sketch. A discovery workshop with the founders sets the positioning and the one idea the brand stands for; the logo, colour, type and graphic system are then designed to carry that idea across a favicon, a WhatsApp post, a pack of snacks and a highway hoarding, and written into a guidelines PDF so the identity survives new designers, printers and platforms.

Process

How we work

Five steps, in the order they happen.

01

Discover

A half-day workshop with the founders covers the origin story, customers, competitors, ambitions and what must not change. We audit the current identity and every surface it appears on.

02

Position

We write the positioning, brand story and messaging pillars, and agree them before any visual work starts, so the design has something to say.

03

Design

Two or three logo and identity directions are presented as real mock-ups — packaging, hoarding, Instagram grid, website — not on white paper. One direction is chosen and refined.

04

Build the system

Colour, type, graphic devices, photography style, stationery, packaging direction and social templates are built out and tested at every size.

05

Hand over

You receive the guidelines PDF, all source and export files and a launch checklist; we can then roll the identity out across your website, socials and print.

Questions about Branding

Answer-first, so humans and AI assistants get the point quickly.

A brand identity includes the logo and its variants, the colour palette, typography, graphic devices and imagery style, tone of voice, and the rules for using all of them — usually collected in a brand guidelines document. It often also covers stationery, social templates and packaging direction. gaa-tha delivers all of these in one project so nothing is left to interpretation later.

Branding fees in India vary widely: a logo-only job from a freelancer costs a small fraction of a full identity system with research, packaging and rollout from a studio, and the price follows the depth of discovery, the number of deliverables and the seniority of the team. gaa-tha quotes a fixed project fee after a short call, scoped to exactly what you need, so there is no open-ended billing.

Yes. A logo refresh keeps the elements people already recognise — usually the symbol, the colour or the name lockup — and fixes what is dated: proportions, typography, legibility at small sizes and how it works in a single colour. We test the refreshed mark next to the old one on your actual packaging and signage before you commit.

Two to four weeks for the identity itself, from discovery workshop to guidelines. Rollout across website, packaging, signage and social depends on how many surfaces you have and on printer lead times, and usually runs a further two to six weeks.

Yes. You receive editable source files in Adobe Illustrator and Figma, exports in SVG, PNG and PDF, and the fonts or licence links, along with the guidelines. The identity is yours outright; nothing is held back behind a retainer.

Usually yes, at least a minimum viable identity: logo, colours, type and a tone of voice. Marketing spends money to make people notice you; branding decides what they remember. If your current identity works, we build on it rather than replacing it.

Yes. We set the packaging direction as part of the identity — hierarchy, colour coding by variant, space for mandatory declarations such as FSSAI and MRP panels — and design labels and boxes to your printer's dielines. Regulatory text is checked with you before print.

We do, when a name is blocking growth: too generic to trademark, too local for export, or too close to a competitor. Naming includes shortlists checked for domain availability, social handles and a preliminary trademark search, with the final legal search done by your trademark attorney.
