The service

What is Portfolio & Brand Website Design?

A portfolio or brand website is a site whose main job is to make someone believe in a person, studio or new brand — through the work, the story behind it and a clear point of view — and then make it easy for the right client, collaborator, employer or investor to get in touch. Unlike a corporate site that lists services, it is judged on taste, pacing and proof: how the work is framed, how quickly the images load and whether a stranger understands what you do within ten seconds.

At gaa-tha these sites start as a story, which is what our name means. We choose the projects that win the work you want next, write each case study as a brief, an approach and an outcome, design the layout around your visuals rather than a template, and add motion only where it helps the story. For new brands, the launch site carries the identity, the founder story and a waitlist or pre-order, ready for the first campaign.

Scope

What's included

  • Positioning and project selection — which work to show, in what order, for which audience
  • Story-led case-study templates: brief, process, outcome, credits and image or video galleries
  • Custom visual design in your identity, or a brand identity created alongside by our branding team
  • Considered motion — scroll reveals, page transitions and hover states that stay light and respect reduced-motion settings
  • Media handling for image-heavy portfolios: AVIF and WebP, responsive sizes, lazy loading and streamed video
  • A CMS for adding projects, press and journal posts without a developer — Webflow CMS, WordPress or a headless CMS such as Sanity
  • Brand launch pages: founder story, product teaser, waitlist or pre-order, press kit and social preview images
  • Contact and booking flows with WhatsApp, calendar booking or email routing, and spam protection
  • Search and AI visibility: Person or Organization structured data, CreativeWork markup for projects, sitemap and llms.txt
  • Domain, hosting, analytics and a handover session so you can run the site yourself

Process

How we work

Five steps, in the order they happen.

01

Story and selection

We interview you, review your body of work and the clients you want next, and agree the projects, the narrative and the one action the site should drive.

02

Structure and case studies

The sitemap and case-study structure are planned, and we write or edit each project story with you so it reads as a brief, an approach and an outcome.

03

Design and motion

Home, project and about pages are designed around your visuals, with motion prototyped early so it feels intentional rather than decorative.

04

Build and CMS

The site is built custom-coded or on Webflow or WordPress, the CMS is set up for projects and posts, and media is optimised so heavy pages still load quickly on a phone.

05

Launch and hand over

Domain, SSL, analytics and Search Console are connected, social previews are checked, you are trained on the CMS, and an optional care plan covers later updates.

Questions about Portfolio sites

Answer-first, so humans and AI assistants get the point quickly.

The cost of a portfolio website depends mainly on whether the design is custom or template-based, how many case studies need writing and laying out, how much motion and video is involved, and which platform it runs on. A single-page personal portfolio and a studio site with a CMS, journal and custom animation are very different jobs, so gaa-tha scopes each one after a short call. Platform subscriptions such as Webflow hosting are billed by the platform, separately from the build.

Webflow suits most designers and studios who want visual control and an easy CMS; WordPress suits people who publish often or need specific plugins; custom code in Next.js or Astro suits sites with unusual interactions or strict performance goals. The right choice depends on who will update the site and how often, so we recommend after seeing your content and team rather than defaulting to one platform.

Platforms are good for discovery, but your own website is where serious clients check you before they commit. It lets you control the order and story of your work, appear for your name in Google and AI assistants, and send enquiries straight to you instead of into a feed. Most people keep both and link their platform profiles to the site.

Personal portfolios usually take two to four weeks, and studio or brand launch sites four to eight. The biggest variable is content — choosing projects, collecting high-resolution images and writing case studies — so we draft the stories with you rather than wait for a finished brief.

Not if they are built carefully. We serve modern image formats at the right size for each screen, lazy-load media below the fold, stream video instead of embedding large files, and keep animation light with a reduced-motion fallback. Speed is tested on mid-range phones before launch, because that is where many clients first see your work.

Yes. A brand launch site usually carries the new identity, the founder story, a product teaser and a waitlist, pre-order or enquiry form, and is ready for the first ad and influencer campaign. If the brand will sell online, we can build it on Shopify from day one so you do not rebuild after launch.

A good portfolio website shows fewer, stronger projects, explains each one in plain words, loads fast on a phone and makes contacting you obvious. When choosing a designer or agency, look at portfolio sites they have actually built, ask who writes the case studies, check which platform you will be left with, and confirm you will own the domain and logins. gaa-tha writes the case studies with you as part of the project, because that is where most portfolios fall short.

You own it. The domain, hosting account, CMS and code are set up in your name, and every login is handed over at launch. You are trained to add projects, swap images and post updates without a developer, and an optional care plan covers larger changes.
